Mawlynnong - Cleanest Village In India

 Mawlynnong is located in the state of Meghalaya. It is also called as 'God's Own Garden'. It is awarded by the title  of "Cleanest village of Asia" by Discover India.  The people of this community not only clean their house, also clean their village roads and plant tree regularly. How to reach Mawlynnong:-

By Air - The nearest airport is Shillong Airport at the distance of 78 kms. You can hire a taxi or take bus to reach Mawlynnong.

By Train - Guwahati Railway Station is the nearest rail head to reach Mawlynnong at the distance of 172 kms.

By Road - There are buses connecting to the nearby cities like shillong, Cherrapunji to reach Mawlynnong.

1. Jingmaham Living Root Bridge

This living root bridge is a natural root bridge near mawlynnong at the distance of 3 kms. it is also

known as Jingmaham living root bridge. It is one of the natural wonder of Meghalaya. The root got thicker over time and the bridge is further strengthened with stones, sticks, leaves, bamboos and other things from the nature. This is only means for the villagers to cross the stream to reach the other side. To reach at the bridge, 300 meters trek is required. 

2. Mawlynnong sky walk

At a distance of just 2 kms from mawlynnong bus stand. It is very close to the Jingmaham Living Root Bridges. This place is famous for its scenic views. You can also see Bangladesh from here. This sky walk is eco friendly, it is made entire from bamboo poles to branch of trees using jute and bamboo ropes. There are no metals use to form this structure.

3. Dawki River

It is located in the Jaintia hill district. Dawki river is about 30 kms from Mawlynnong. It is famous for its crystal clear water which makes boats on it look like they are floating in mid-air. It is also import for India because of it is import and export point between India and Bangladesh.

4. Mawlynnong Waterfall

Mawlynnong Waterfall settled in one of the most cleanest village in India. This waterfall is surrounded by the lush green forest. Monsoon is the best time to visit this waterfall, when falls are in full flow. In monsoon the all places around waterfall become lush green.

5. Balancing Rock

It is located about 1 kms from Mawlynnong. This is a nature's wonder. The place used to be revered by the local Khasi Tribes, But since presently most locals have turned towards Christianity, the religious significance of the place has dwindled.
